The Penn State Alumni AssociationWhat’s been happening: Penn State has been a significant part of my volunteer activities. During my time as VP of SPS Technologies, we had two Ben Franklin Partnerships with the Industrial Engineering Dept. In 1996 my consulting firm was a founding partner with the Engineering Dept. in applying and winning a competitive grant from the Natl. Science Foundation to work with the U of Puerto Rico and U of Washington to put engineering classes online for schools that did not have our resources. An offshoot of that was the first Learning Factory in the U.S., now copied widely. I served on the Industrial Advisory Council for 15 years and had endowment responsibility, and served as President. Penn State received the highest national engineering award for this program in 2007. I retired from the board in 2008. After working with others on the designs and installations of many Automated Storage Systems, I began my own company in 1989 specializing in the design of these systems for university libraries, and expert witness services on these systems. While I continue with passed clients, my wife Nancy and I moved to New Holland, PA to a retirement village where we volunteer in several ways, and enjoy visiting our three daughters and five grandchildren. |
